Karachi Metro Bus - An Overview;

   May be it’s not always about trying to fix something broken. May be it’s about starting over and creating something better.

   Our worthy Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz shareef has planned for Karachi Green line metro bus. He has planned this after the successful projects of Lahore and Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus project as It provided a great benefit for the residents, residing there to travel anywhere within the city in low cost and can reach to their expected destinations in time as to be get stuck in traffic .

   Lahore metro bus was proposed in 1991 and it abandoned in favor of bus transit system and they planned to build this by getting inspired from Istanbul Metro Bus system. So Plans were developed in the last quarter of 2011 by both local and Turkish experts.

   After Lahore Metro Bus project system went in great favor and was admired by the citizens of Lahore as it solved their greatest problem so our prime minister thought that the same project must be launched in the Rawalpindi and Islamabad to facilitate people residing there and yet it was also a huge and difficult work to do as rainfall is greater there and water drainage system was also a problem but our prime minister took great care and work was done on it. Hence Islamabad Metro Bus got ready and started running on its route and was also admired a lot and was beneficial for the people of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.



  After these two massive projects which went in the favor of people prime minister thought that now this project must take place in Karachi as the people residing there are also facing a great difficulty in traffic so in accordance with their this difficulty the green line bus was planned to start and it was inaugurated on Feb. 25, 2016 and it is expected to start from Feb. 2017.

  The Karachi Metro Bus is an under-construction 109 km (67.7 mi) bus rapid transit for Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The expected daily ridership would be 350,000 and the system length would be 109 km. Upon completion it is expected to be the largest metro bus service in the country.

   The system is divided into several lines, the construction on the Green Line started on February 26, 2016, the line has 22 bus stations covering an length of 26 km. Orange Line construction begin on June 11, 2016 and is the smallest of the five line's spreading over 3.9 km with only four stations. The Blue Lane is funded by Bahria Town Group is undergoing preliminary design.

   The route of initial "Green Line" is one of several proposed Karachi Metro Bus lines that will crisscross Karachi and complement the Karachi Circular Railway. The route will approximately 26 km (16 mi). When completed, it will have the capacity to carry 150,000 people daily. Hence for this purpose the government is in process of acquiring a 18-meter-long 24 buses.

There are 5 lines which are to be spread throughout the city and they are as follows:
  •  Green line

  •  Blue line

  •  Yellow line

  •  Red line 

  •  Orange line

    These all five lines will cover the whole city as their route description is as follows:

Green line:

   The Green Line will extend from Surjani Town to Merewether Tower at a total length of 26 km

(16 mi) covering the following routes:
  • · Numiash Chowrangi Terminal (To Blue Line/Yellow Line)
  • · Mazar-e-Quaid Station
  • · Guru Mandir Chowrangi Station
  • · Lasbela Chowk Station
  • · Gulbahar Station
  • · Nazimabad Chowrangi Station
  • · Eid Gah Ground Station
  • · North Nazimabad Station (to KCR)
  • · AO Tower Station
  • · KDA Chowrangi Station
  • · Sharah-e-Jehanghir Station
  • · Sakhi Hassan Circle Station
  • · Nagan Chowrangi Station
  • · U.P. More Station
  • · Power House Roundabout Station
  • · 4K Chowrangi Station.



Blue line:
   The Blue Line will extend from Merewether Tower to Bahria Town through DHA City, Karachi (DCK) in the way at a total length of 30 km (19 mi), and will be the first privately funded transport system in Pakistan being funded by the Bahria Town

Blue line will be covering the following routes:
  • · Merewether Tower terminal
  • · Naumaish Chaurangi terminal
  • · Liauquatabad station
  • · Bahria toen terminal
Yellow Line:

· The Yellow Line will extend from Numiash Chowrangi to Landi Station at a total length of 26 km (16 mi). It will cover the following Routes:

  • · Numiash Chowrangi Terminal (to Blue Line/Green Line)
  • · Landi Station Terminal (to KCR)
Red Line:

   The Red Line will extend from Model Colony to Regal Chowk Via Safoora Goth and University Road at a total length of 27 km (17 mi). It will be covering its route from Regal chowk terminal(to blue/yellow line) up till Regal chowk station terminal(to KCR)

Orange line:
   3.9 km line with four stations connecting Orangi Town with the under-construction Green Line BRT. Cost of Rs1.14 billion.


     In this way this Green line metro bus of Karachi will be working and will be providing its benefits and facilities to the passengers and people residing there and they will be able to reach towards their destinations in a short span of time. Well measures taken by our prime minister.
